Films Gil has appeared in include The Panic in Needle Park, W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings, Pretty Poison, A Fan's Note, The Bell Jar, Eddie Macon's Run, and Nothing But a Man.

He worked as Hawk Shayne on CBS's "The Guiding Light" for five years, and as Ray Gardner on ABC's "All My Children" for five years. He played Dr. Martin Brandt on NBC's "The Doctors" for ten months. He also appeared in Rodeo Red and the Runaway, an afterschool special on NBC.

He played Sherriff Ed Earl Dodd on Broadway, in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, as Frank Brady in The Great White Hope, and The Squire in The Corn is Green.

Gil has done much work off Broadway, and with touring and regional theaters.
